Alkaid's color spectrum has served as one of the stable anchor points by which other all stars are classified since 1943. Although studied very closely, no exoplanets or companion stars have been discovered around it. While Alkid is the easternmost star in the Big Dipper asterism, it is actually not a member of the Ursa Major moving group. Still, is the third-brightest star in the big dipper constellation.
