It shines at 12000K temperature and holds a declination at S 17°. It’s a binary star system with an apparent magnitude of 2.8 in the night sky. Gienah's spectrum displays an anomalously high abundance of elemental mercury and manganese, making this a Mercury-manganese star. Gienah is number 56 on the list of the brightest 58 Navigational Stars.
