Rasalhague, Alpha Ophiuchi, is an A-type blue-white subgiant located 49 light years away in the Ophiuchus constellation.
It shines at 8200K temperature and holds a declination at N 13°. It’s a binary star system with an apparent magnitude of 2.1 in the night sky. It’s also a rapidly rotating star, last observed spinning at about 88.5% of the rate that would cause the star to break up, which also means that the temperature at the poles is also higher than at the equator. Rasalhague is number 44 on the list of the brightest 58 Navigational Stars.
